英文摘要: This study reports a facile and versatile approach to novel functional water-soluble aliphatic poly(butylene tartarate)s PBT bearing reactive hydroxyl pendant groups. For this purpose, a chloroform-soluble hydroxyl terminated poly(butylene fumarate) PBF was first derived through condensation polymerization from starting materials of fumaric acid and 1,4-butanediol, and a successive fractionation in chloroform. Subsequently, the hydroxyl terminated PBF was acetyl end-capped, and was further applied as the synthetic precursor for dihydroxylation of the unsaturated backbone C=C bonds under an optimized catalyst system of osmium tetroxide and N-methyl morpholine N-oxide in a mixed solvent of chloroform and methanol. After the fractionation of dihydroxylation products in methanol, novel water-soluble aliphatic polyester PBT with Mn,NMR equal to 10.2 Kda was successfully attained. Furthermore, their chemical structures, solubility in diverse solvents and physical properties were investigated by means of nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer (NMR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), hydroxyl quantitative titration, X-ray diffractometer and thermal analytical instruments. As compared to the well-applied synthetic strategy via a multi-step functional group protection-deprotection cycle or a bio-catalytic route, this approach will provide a new efficient and general way to prepare water-soluble aliphatic polyesters as novel functional biomaterials.
